Calculate how many bags of concrete you need for a slab or rectangular pour from length, width, thickness, waste and the actual yield printed on the concrete bag.

How many bags of concrete do I need?

Enter the pour length, width and thickness to calculate concrete volume, then enter the finished concrete yield stated on your specific bag. Calcavera divides the required volume by the yield and rounds up to a whole number of bags.

Use the bag yield, not only bag weight

A 40 lb, 50 lb, 60 lb, 80 lb or metric bag size does not by itself guarantee one universal finished volume. Product formulations differ. Use the yield shown on the package or manufacturer data sheet rather than assuming a fixed value for every brand.

Waste and real pours

The theoretical rectangular volume can be increased with an allowance for site variation, spillage and measurement uncertainty. The appropriate allowance depends on the project; it is not a substitute for measuring known deeper sections separately.

Frequently asked questions

How many bags of concrete do I need for a slab?
Enter slab length, width and thickness, then the finished yield per bag from the product package. The calculator divides total required volume by that yield and rounds up.
Can I calculate 60 lb or 80 lb concrete bags?
Yes. Use the actual finished-volume yield stated for that specific 60 lb, 80 lb or other bag. The calculator is based on yield rather than assuming every bag size has the same output.
Why does the calculator ask for bag yield?
Different mixes and manufacturers can produce different finished volumes. Yield is the most direct value for converting required concrete volume into a bag count.
Should I add extra concrete bags for waste?
You can enter an allowance for planning, but the appropriate percentage depends on the pour, subgrade, forms and measurement uncertainty.
What does Concrete Bag Calculator calculate?
The calculator uses the measurements and values you enter and applies a defined deterministic formula. Change the inputs and the result is calculated again from those values.
Can I save this calculation to a project?
Yes. After calculating, use “Add to my project estimate” to save the result in your current Calcavera project estimate. You can repeat this with other calculators to build a multi-item project.
Can I print or save the estimate as a PDF?
Yes. Open the saved project estimate, then use the “Print / Save PDF” button. Your browser can print the estimate or save it as a PDF file.
Can I use metric and imperial units?
Yes. Where supported by the calculator, you can mix common metric and imperial input units. Calcavera converts measurements before running the calculation and shows the selected output unit.
Are the cost figures a contractor quote?
No. Cost ranges are planning estimates and appear only when an active market rate is available. Supplier pricing, labor, taxes, delivery, specifications and site conditions can change the final cost.
